CHRISTIAN TREASURE DEVOTION
Scriptural Reference: > "Think of it this way: If a father dies and leaves an inheritance for his young children, those children are not much better than slaves until they grow up, even though they actually own everything their father had." — Galatians 4:1-2 (NLT).
May you be blessed and enlightened as you read, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
The Wisdom of the Heir
There was once a wealthy man whose business empire spanned the globe, reaching into real estate, oil, and gas. He was surrounded by many servants and extended family, but he had only one son—a young man he had raised with intentionality and great wisdom.
Upon the father's passing, a "will" was revealed with a strange and controversial instruction: The son was to choose his portion only after every servant and relative had selected what they wanted. Whatever remained would belong to him.
On the day the will was read, greed took over. The servants and relatives scrambled for the skyscrapers, the oil rigs, and the estates, leaving absolutely nothing for the son. They whispered among themselves, "The old man was foolish. He left his own son a beggar."
Quietly, the son stood up. "My father was not foolish," he announced. "He taught me well. Since everything else is taken, I choose to take the slaves."
The room fell silent as the weight of his decision landed. By law, the slaves—and everything they had just claimed for themselves—belonged to the master’s estate. By choosing the "slaves," the son reclaimed everything. He understood his position, and that position gave him everything.
Life Lessons: From Servitude to Sonship.
Galatians 4:1-3 illustrates a profound spiritual truth: We have a massive inheritance from our Heavenly Father, but as long as we remain "infants" in our understanding, we are no better off than slaves.
1. Maturity is the Key to Access
An inheritance is legally yours the moment it is written, but it is only accessible when you mature. In the Kingdom, maturity isn't just about age; it is about revelation. It is about knowing what is rightfully yours so you can stop begging for what you already own.
2. The Law of the Household
In the ancient world, a slave had no rights; even their children belonged to the master. When we live in ignorance, we live like slaves to the circumstances of this world. But Ephesians 1:5 declares that we have received the "Spirit of Adoption." We are no longer outsiders; we are heirs to the One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills.
3. Redemption from the "Rules"
Before Christ, we were bound by the "basic principles" of this world—laws, regulations, and the fear of failure. However, God sent Jesus to redeem those under the law so that we might receive the full rights of sons. You aren't just a "saved sinner"; you are a preferred son or daughter.
How to Walk in Your Inheritance
How do we stop living in spiritual poverty and start leveraging our position in Christ?
Reject Ignorance: Christ purchased your freedom with His blood. Ephesians 1:3 tells us He has already blessed us with every spiritual blessing. If you don't know it, you can't use it.
EMBRACE YOUR IDENTITY: Through the Spirit of Sonship, you can cry out, "Abba, Father!" This is a term of intimacy and legal standing.
Claim the Promises: The Holy Spirit is the "earnest money" or the seal of our inheritance (Ephesians 1:13). He is the guarantee that everything God promised is coming to pass.
REFLECTION
Are you living like a slave, struggling to survive and begging for crumbs, or are you living like a son? Ignorance is the only thing that can keep an heir in a position of slavery. Everything you need has already been provided—it’s time to grow up into your inheritance.
Ask yourself: Am I making decisions based on my earthly lack or my Heavenly Father's abundance?.
PRAYER
Dear Father in Heaven, thank You for the gift of sonship. I am humbled that You have called me Your heir and joint-heir with Christ. Forgive me for the times I have lived like a slave to fear and lack. Today, I step into the authority and inheritance You have provided for me. May Your name be glorified through my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
