ON WHOSE COUNSEL

Anchor Scripture: “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.” - Proverbs 13:20.(KJV).

Welcome to today's devotion, On Whose Counsel. Who directs your path? Whose counsel matters to you? Today, we draw inspiration from Rehoboam, the son of King Solomon, who became the king of Israel after his father.

The people approached Rehoboam with a request: “Your father was a hard master and imposed an unbearable tax on us. Lighten our burden.” Rehoboam promised to give them a response on the third day. First, he sought the counsel of the elders, who advised him to empathize with the people and ease their burdens. However, he chose to consult with his peers, who suggested that he increase their burden instead. This decision ultimately led to rebellion, and he lost his throne.

What can we learn from this story? Be cautious about whose counsel you seek regarding your marriage, career, education, family, and other important matters. When people give you advice, carefully analyze it to see if it aligns with God’s Word concerning your situation.

What should you do in such cases? As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit, who teaches us all things. He provides counsel, guidance, and direction.

Our Assignments: Let us use biblical principles as our lens through which to view every piece of advice we receive. Secondly, we should rely on the Word of God and prayer. Surround yourself with genuine Christians who base their decisions on Scripture; these are the wise individuals referred to in Proverbs 13:20.

Prayers:Today, we receive the grace to seek counsel from the Holy Spirit, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Congratulations!
