Topic: You Will Have to Fight
Anchor Scripture: Genesis 26:22 (NIV) - “He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, ‘Now the LORD has given us room, and we will flourish in the land.’”
Thank you, Lord, for another beautiful day. In Jesus' name, amen. Let me start with this motivational line: **“You are the only one who can make your dreams come true.”** Let’s learn from this story.
A man faced many problems in life. Just when he thought he was overcoming one issue, another would pop up—unpaid bills, health issues, everything seemed to go wrong. So, he went to his pastor and said, “Please pray for me so I won’t have any more troubles.”
His pastor replied, “The only place where you won’t have trouble is in heaven, and that’s when you die. God forbid you die now without fulfilling your purpose; you will have to fight.”
Many people give up too soon. Let’s look at Isaac in Genesis 26. There was a famine in the land, but with God’s help, Isaac went to Gerar. Even though he was a foreigner, he obeyed God and planted crops, becoming successful. However, the people in Gerar grew jealous of him and plotted against him, questioning how a foreigner could become so wealthy so quickly. They attacked his source of wealth: the well he had dug to water his crops and flocks.
Verse 16 tells us they became very angry and filled the well with dirt, saying, "Let’s see how he gets water now." But Isaac restored the well that his father, Abraham, had dug before he died. He dug more wells and found water, despite the ongoing conflict. This shows a persistent spirit that we should all have if we want to achieve our goals. Mathew 11:12. Only the violent take it by force
You must be patient, obey God’s guidance, and read His word. Wait for His blessings.
Eventually, in verse 22, Isaac’s servants dug another well and found water. There was no argument over this one, and he named it “Rehoboth,” meaning “Open Space.”
No matter how long the devil tries to wear you down, if you trust in God’s promises for your life, he will ultimately give up. Achieving your purpose is difficult because Satan does not want you to succeed, so challenges will come your way.
You might wonder, “Why do my battles feel endless?” The answer is simple: just as no two snowflakes are alike, the foundation of a skyscraper is not the same as that of a bungalow house.
How can we stay strong during life’s battles?**
Stay close to God through His word. The Bible can help you through tough times. There’s no problem you face that hasn’t been addressed in Scripture; just look for it
There is no new problem, whatever you are facing or have faced. Someone else also had the challenges.Psalm 119:162 says, “I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great treasure.” Proverbs 2:1 and 4-5 encourage us to seek God’s word like silver and hidden treasures. It’s up to you to search for it.
Lessons for Today:
1. Giving up too easily is dangerous if you want to fulfill your purpose.
2. God is always with you if you follow His guidance. He is excellent in what He does and wise in counsel (Isaiah 28:29).
3. God will never take you where His grace cannot help or sustain you, no matter how bad things are.
4. The stronger the struggle, the bigger the reward in many cases.
5. Enemies will try to bring you down, but if you ignore them, they will eventually leave you alone.
When we talk about enemies, we don’t always mean physical ones. They could come as discouragement, health issues, money problems, difficult children, fake friends, or anything that tries to stop you from achieving your dreams. They may tell you that you are too old for a new career or unattractive to be engaged.
Reflection: meditate deeply on today's devotion and apply what you learned today May the Lord help us understand all things. In Jesus' name, amen.
Assignment for Today: Let’s read the whole chapter of Genesis 26 during our quiet time with God.
