Topic: Finding Your Purpose – Follow What Is Written
Scripture Reference: Matthew 26:24 NIV
The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.”*
Welcome! May you be blessed as you read today's devotion in Jesus’ name. Amen. Today, we will look at how God wants us to align with our purpose.
In our scripture, Jesus knew He had to fulfill the prophecies about Him, including His betrayal and crucifixion. Understanding what is written about us helps us recognize our true purpose.
As It Is Written" Means:
It is a guide—like a roadmap that shows us how to live according to God's design. When we follow this path, we find that we thrive because we’re doing what we were meant to do.
For example, a passenger plane has a specific purpose and cannot perform the function of a cargo plane because they have different designs and capacities.
Biblical Example: King Josiah
*Refer to 2 Kings 22:23 and 2 Chronicles 34:38.*
King Josiah became king at just eight years old. Though his nation was full of idols, he sought to please God. One day, while cleaning the temple, a priest(Hilkiah )found the Book of the Law and the scribe (Shaphan ), who was the secretary to the king, read it to Josiah. The book warned of the consequences of their sinful behaviors.
When Josiah heard these words, he was deeply moved. He understood that to succeed, the nation needed to return to God's ways. He made a covenant with God, promising to follow the law, and the people agreed. As a result, significant changes occurred:
1. Religion was reformed.
2. Idolatry was eliminated.
3. The bad prophecies did not come true during his reign.
Signs You May Not Be Living in Purpose
- If you feel no passion for what you’re doing, you might not be in your true purpose.
- If you find joy and fulfillment in a side hustle rather than your main job, that could indicate you’re on the right path.
- Many successful people followed their interests instead of rigid career paths, often finding fulfillment and success outside traditional routes.
Finding and Living Your Purpose
1. Give everything you do to God. Pray for guidance to help you follow His will.
2. Read your Bible daily; it’s a source of wisdom for living according to God’s design.
3. Even if you’ve strayed from your path, God can help you reset and discover your true purpose.
Key Takeaways:
King Josiah found purpose by learning God’s will for his nation. A good leader helps improve the lives of their people. Similarly, Jesus stayed true to His purpose despite temptations and distractions.
Not following what is written can lead to a life that feels unfulfilling. It’s essential to find joy in what you do, beyond financial reward.
Use modern strategies and tools to tackle new challenges; don’t rely on outdated methods.
Assignment:
Reflect on your current job or career: Are you following the path that God has for you?
Let’s Pray:
Thank you, Abba Father, for your words to us today. We ask for wisdom to walk according to our purpose in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
