Topic: FALSE SECURITY (Emperor Shi Huang).

Anchor Scripture: Isaiah 28:1. “Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which is on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!”

May you be blessed as you read this in Jesus' name. Amen. Emperor Qin Shi Huang, originally known as Prince Zhang of Huang, was born in 259 BC in China. He ascended the throne at the tender age of thirteen after his father's passing. By twenty, he was decisively leading and adopted the title Qin Shi Huang, meaning “First Emperor.” His reign was notable for monumental advancements, particularly in infrastructure, as he developed extensive road networks.

However, his legacy is marred by tyranny; he ordered the destruction of many religious texts, and those who opposed him faced dire consequences, even death.

**FALSE SECURITY:**

With the unification of various regions, Qin mistakenly believed his dynasty would endure forever. In his pursuit of immortality, he summoned scientists to discover an elixir for eternal life. He also commissioned the construction of an opulent tomb, housing a vast terracotta army of 8,000 soldiers, horses, and possessions for his afterlife. Tragically, he died during a journey to eastern China in 210 BC.

WHAT WAS HIS FALSE SECURITY?

It embodies the illusion of safety when true security is absent. This false sense of security may provide temporary comfort, clouding judgment and impeding critical thinking, often accompanied by the belief that wealth, connections, or beauty could shield you from adversity.

It may also arise from misplaced self-sufficiency—the notion that assistance from others is unnecessary. When we neglect to seek God’s guidance in our plans, we risk preparing for a future without acknowledging the fragility of life itself.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLE

Isaiah 28 illustrates the folly of misplaced confidence through Shebna, a treasurer and palace administrator appointed by God. He squandered the resources entrusted to him by building an extravagant tomb for personal glory, underestimating the need for divine guidance in his future. The Lord, displeased, resolved to replace him with Eliakim, who would be more faithful in fulfilling his responsibilities.

WHAT ARE YOU SAYING TODAY:

Beware of a false sense of security.

Your life is not your own.

Trust in God's guidance.

Remember, life is not measured by material wealth.

Avoid hoarding resources; life is fleeting.

You entered this world with nothing and will leave with nothing.

REFLECTION: Take a moment to prayerfully reflect on today’s devotional. Ask God to reveal areas in your life where you might be relying on a false sense of security. Seek His guidance if you are uncertain.

PRAYERS: Lord, grant us wisdom to rely on Your unfailing love and the grace to place our complete trust in You alone, in Jesus' name, amen.
