Topic: Evil Communication (The African 5 Parrots)

Anchor Scripture 1 Corinthians 15:33 (KJV) - "Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits."

Be blessed as you read, in Jesus' name, amen. I feel inspired to share a remarkable story from 2020 about five African grey parrots in a Zoo. They swore and laughed at the zoo visitors. Making their separation from one another inevitable There was no way the zoo could have continued to tolerate that bizarre amusing yet inappropriate swearing and laughter which disrupted the zoo visitors' experience.

But the parrots could have picked this behavior from their environment. Some people must have done the same thing to them over time, demonstrating the profound impact of our surroundings

In my post on June 16, 2025, titled "You Can Trust Him," I recounted a childhood story highlighting a parrot's incredible cognitive abilities. Thus, I wasn't surprised by the behavior of those parrots; it's a testament to how we should guard our words. The Bible urges us to speak only what builds others up, a powerful lesson reflected in the behavior of those parrots.

Research from “Applied Animal Behavior” reveals that African grey parrots possess cognitive skills akin to a 4- to 6-year-old child. In this half of the year, let’s focus on cultivating good communication skills.

These parrots likely developed habits by mimicking negative behaviors from their surroundings. Just as sociologists affirm that humans reflect their environments, animals, too, can exhibit learned behaviors. Like children, these parrots mirrored undesirable communication patterns based on their experiences.

Good communication is vital, especially as it will be key for job candidates in 2025. The impression we make through social media significantly influences our opportunities. This reinforces the biblical emphasis on being mindful of the company we keep.

Ephesians 4:29 reminds us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what helps build others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." While the Bible often uses an allegory of sheep, it equally applies to goats, creatures that symbolize rebellion.

What is unwholesome communication according to the Bible?

Unwholesome communication is any talk that tears down rather than uplifts, including slander, malice, and jesting about others' misfortunes—such words spoken in anger or malice.

Our Lessons Today:

Let us allow grace to flow from our mouths, using words that uplift and encourage instead of destroying. Good communication, as the Bible teaches, uplifts the soul.

Let’s correct each other in love, avoiding slander or mockery. Being mindful of our words, especially around children and pets, will help prevent the spread of evil communication.

I encourage you to reflect on this post and prayerfully align yourself with its truths.

PRAYERS:

Dear Father, we thank You for today's devotion. We ask for grace to develop uplifting communication skills, inspiring those who hear us, in Jesus' name, amen.
