DEVOTION ON
Psalm 110:2. ON HOW TO OVERCOME LIFE CHALLENGES THROUGH SPIRITUAL WARFARE.
The LORD will extend your mighty scepter from Zion, saying, “Rule in the midst of your enemies!”
HOW TO OVERCOME LIFE CHALLENGES
DEVOTIONAL READING: A preacher mentioned in his sermon that he observed a trend among certain Christians: when asked to do intercessory prayers, they often take it easy, but when asked to pray against their enemies, the congregation usually erupts like a volcano.
Genuine Christians understand they have an adversary in the devil. They desire to live trouble-free lives away from the pain the devil brings. However, the sad truth is that God will not always eliminate your enemies because some problems are meant to build you up, mature you, or bring glory to God. Others are allowed to demonstrate God's sovereignty; He alone decides human destinies, not gods or people, so He permits certain battles. Some battles are meant to point you toward eternity, so don't miss heaven.
As I’ve pointed out, God will not always destroy your enemies—what He does is empower you to fight. I know you’re wandering. How is that?
I shared this story before: a man, weary of facing numerous struggles, went to a man of God to pray that he wouldn't have problems anymore. He said, “Man of God, pray that I don't have problems again.” The man of God laid hands on him and simply prayed, “Father, let him die.” The man quickly opened his eyes and said, “I don't want to die.” The man of God then told him, “The only place where you can be and have no problems is in the grave.” God wants you to possess a fighting spirit.
HOW GOD EMPOWERS HIS CHILDREN
1. The Word (Psalm 107:20): The words of God do wonders. He sent His words to heal you. They are also the antidote for destruction.
2. Utterances: Speaking in tongues. The Holy Spirit provides utterances to empower believers to handle tough situations.
3. Prophetic words of knowledge: These are words you can speak into the atmosphere, backed by the Holy Spirit.
DIVING DEEPER: In Judges 7, God sent an angel to Gideon, who was hiding in the winepress to thresh some of the harvested grain. The angel called Gideon a "mighty man of valor," but he doubted himself. He asked the angel why he should be called a man of valor because the enemies still had the upper hand. God instructed him to cut down the idols in his father's house. Gideon also asked God for signs to confirm His calling, and it was all confirmed. What this story teaches us is that sometimes God wants us to fight the battle ourselves, relying on His guidance and instructions. Are you ready to fight those oppressing powers, it's only when you agree that God can empower you.
I want you to also know that, you already possess that specific power you need to overcome the devils attacking you, but you need to move closer to God and be instructed.
REFLECTION QUESTION: How can I be empowered by the Lord to overcome my life challenges?
Journaling prompts: Critically write down the areas where you need God's strength. and ask God for help
Pray and ask the Lord to empower you with a rod that will enable you to rule over your enemies.
Prayers: Thank you for Your words to me today. Thank you for strengthening me, Lord. I ask today for empowerment. Amen.
