Topic: Beware of Defeatist Prayers

Anchor Scripture: Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

"But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

Some time ago, I came across a troubling story of a boy born in Rwanda. He could not speak, ate grass, and liked playing in the jungle. According to a video allegedly released by Afrimam Reward on YouTube, the boy, named Zanzimana Ellie, was born after his mother had given birth to five children, all of whom died as infants. The mother shared, and I quote, "When I became pregnant again, my husband and I knelt before God and asked Him to give us a child, even if the child is abnormal, as long as the child will not die."

After reading this story, I was reminded of the concept of "Defeatist Prayers."

WHAT IS A DEFEATIST PRAYERS

A Defeatist Prayer is a prayer of unbelief; it’s when you approach God with the mindset that your prayer may not work. However, the Bible assures us: "Surely there is an end, and your expectation shall not be cut off" (Proverbs 23:18). This means that when you pray, you should anticipate good things happening.

HOW TO BE EXPECTANT

- Desire what you prayed for.

- Take a step of faith in alignment with your expectations.

- When your expectations are in place, good things will manifest swiftly.

REFLECTION:

If you don’t pursue something, you cannot overtake it, and if you don’t overtake it, you cannot achieve it. Let’s take a moment to reflect on our prayers today. Why are some prayers left unanswered? Have we been offering defeatist prayers?

PRAYERS:

Father, we come to Your throne of grace today to seek help and to receive the grace to believe in Your promises concerning us. Help us to pray correctly, in Jesus's name, Amen.
