TITLE: : God, Your Burden Bearer: Today is a Good Day

Anchor Scripture:

"Praise be to the Lord our Savior, who daily bears our burdens."

— Psalm 68:19 (NLT)

DEVOTIONAL READING:

God is a specialist in carrying the burdens of His children. Yet, most of the time, we tend to cling to our worries without even realizing it. Throughout Scripture, He has consistently revealed Himself as our Burden Bearer, but many of us fail to pay attention.

When you carry the weight of worry alone, you are silently telling Jesus, “Don’t worry, I can take care of all my troubles.” When you make major life decisions without seeking His heart in prayer, you are essentially saying, “I am old enough to handle this myself.”

But the honest question we must ask ourselves is: Can you really take care of yourself?

The beautiful news is found in today’s anchor scripture. Not only does He bear our burdens, but He also has a perfect gift packaged for you each day. He releases these daily benefits for our pleasure! All you have to do is carry Him along in your plans. He has the most amazing package waiting for you today.

THE ENEMY'S. STRATEGIES

Satan’s primary strategy is to wear you out. He wants to drain your strength through anxiety, fear, and depression. Once confusion sets in, he begins to whisper lies into your ears, telling you that you have failed on all fronts and that you should just end it all.

Every day looks different for everyone, and your feelings when you woke up this morning are completely valid. However, the Psalmist encourages us to welcome each new day with a grateful heart and a warm sense of expectation. No matter what you are facing, look for the goodness of God in today.

Why Do You Need God Daily to Bear Your Burdens?

“As they were going out, they met a man from Cyrene, named Simon, and they forced him to carry the cross.” — Matthew 27:32

According to the Gospels, as Jesus was on His way to Calvary, He became utterly exhausted from the brutal beatings of the Roman soldiers. He was too weak to move under the crushing weight of the cross. At that moment, a man named Simon of Cyrene—an African man living in Cyrene—was pulled from the crowd and forced to help Him.

Consider this: If Jesus, our Savior, accepted help to finish His earthly race, who are you to keep carrying your heavy burdens all by yourself?

THE INVITATION TO REST

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28

Today, Jesus is extending a personal invitation to you. He knows exactly what you are going through. He knows where you hurt, and He knows the sting of betrayal from people you trusted—perhaps even within the church where you once served. Maybe you’ve walked away, swearing never to return, concluding that worshipping God is a scam because a brother or sister failed you.

Jesus is calling you anyway. He wants to heal those deep hurts. He wants to carry the malice, bitterness, and resentment that are negatively affecting your emotional and physical health. He is waiting for you.

DIVING DEEPER

1. Understanding Hebrews 4:10

“For anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.”

This verse highlights our deep need to rest from our strivings. God Himself rested after creating the world. You were not created to labor in anxiety until eternity; you have a limited time to fulfill your destiny on earth. While seasons of rest differ, this scripture commands us to cease from self-effort. Allow Him to carry the weight so you can rest from unnecessary worry.

  1. Understanding Hebrews 3:15

“Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

Do not reject His voice today. Open your heart so you can enter His rest. Your season is coming. Do not envy anyone; when it is your time, you will be marvelously helped by God.

Remember the Israelites in the wilderness: God reached out to them repeatedly, but they rejected His help and resorted to "self-help" by worshipping idols. This stubbornness ultimately led to their destruction. Turn away from self-help today.

Reflection Question

Critically examine your heart: Have you stopped asking God for help? Have you quietly resorted to relying entirely on your own strength and self-help?

JOURNALING PROMPT

Write down the specific areas of your life where you are currently hurting.

Note the memories or situations that bring sadness or depression when they come to mind.

As you write them down, consciously hand them over to Jesus, knowing He is here to help you.

DAILY PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me unconditionally. Thank You, Lord, for carrying away my heavy burdens and for the beautiful daily benefits You provide. May Your name be glorified in my life today. In Jesus' name, A
