Topic: WISDOM FOR PROFITABLE LIVING

Anchor Scripture: Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom, and with all thy getting, get understanding. New King James Version. Proverbs 4:7.

A comedian in my country once joked, "It's not everybody displaying wares you ask: How sales?" He shared a story about a man who asked a coffin maker how business was going. The coffin maker replied with a touch of sarcasm, "By the time your likes die, there will be sales because right now, it's low." It's funny, yet it reveals a deeper truth.

What is lacking in such interactions? Wisdom. How can one inquire about a funeral home's business? It prompts reflection on why we ask such questions. Imagine if a funeral home began promoting a "Christmas bonanza" or sending festive greetings; it would indeed be out of place.

This is why our anchor Scripture emphasizes the importance of seeking wisdom and understanding. For instance, acquiring a gun for self-protection may seem wise, but understanding means knowing when to keep it holstered to avoid regret.

Wisdom embodies sound judgment and discernment, while understanding represents the ability to apply that wisdom. Both are gifts from God, who generously provides when we seek Him. This reminds me of a story about a government hospital near some coffin makers.

When someone passed away, the hospital staff, often the cleaners, would ask the relatives if they wanted to place the body in the morgue or bury it immediately. If they wanted burial immediately, they were directed to the nearby coffin maker. This continued for years without anyone questioning it, until one certain afternoon...
