SCRIPTURAL REFERENCE: PROVERBS 2:6. “For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.”
Welcome, and may you be blessed as you read in Jesus' name. Amen.
There was once a young boy who received a small powered transistor radio. Every day, he would tune it in, listen to the different stations, and enjoy it. One day, however, when he tried to turn on his cherished companion, it refused to respond. He was perplexed and shook the radio vigorously, banged it, and even slapped it, but to no avail. Finally, he took it to a repairman.
The first thing the repairman did was open the battery compartment and discover that the battery had died. After replacing the old battery with a new one, the radio sprang back to life. This experience offers a valuable lesson about knowledge, wisdom, and power. In this devotion, we will focus on the importance of knowledge. In all facets of life, we all need knowledge.
What You Need to Know About Knowledge
In Greek, knowledge is referred to as *gnosis*, which refers to the act of knowing something, especially things that others may not understand.
1. Knowledge is power.
2. Knowledge puts you in control.
3. Knowledge makes you a ruler.
4. Knowledge begins with the fear of God.
5. You can either grow or diminish in knowledge.
6. Godly knowledge comes from the Almighty God.
7. Excessive worldly knowledge can bring grief. (Ecclesiastes 1:8)
8. Seeking knowledge brings understanding.
9. Understanding makes you a generational leader.
10. To be powerful, you must possess knowledge that others do not.
11. Through knowledge, discernment is achieved.
KING SOLOMON IN THE BIBLE
King Solomon was favored by God and the people. He had an understanding of various matters that most individuals did not comprehend. One of his most notable displays of wisdom occurred during a judgment involving two women who claimed to be the mothers of a living baby. Solomon's wise handling of the situation earned him the title of the wisest man of his time, gifted with exceptional wisdom and discernment.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAVE KNOWLEDGE
1. INFLUENCE
The example of King Solomon illustrates great influence. The Bible mentions that his fame spread far and wide, even attracting the Queen of Sheba, who visited to see what made him so renowned. Upon arrival, she was amazed by the order of things in the palace, and she remarked, "I did not believe the reports I heard about your wisdom and wealth. But what I see now is even more than I expected." (Paraphrased from 1 Chronicles 9) She also brought many gifts for the king.
DISCERNMENT:
Knowledge empowers you to perceive things that others cannot. In 1 Chronicles 12:32, during a time of confusion in Israel concerning who should be king after Saul's death, only the tribe of Issachar, about two hundred of them, knew the right course of action. Through discernment, they recognized that David was the rightful heir due to his strength and charisma.
3. PEACE
Knowing the right course of action brings peace.
4. RIGHTEOUSNESS
Being in right standing with God means making decisions rooted in righteousness.
5. GROWTH
Growing in the ways of God means becoming more like Him every day.
CONCLUSION
The best way to gain knowledge is to seek it from God. The knowledge of God guides us in understanding the right steps to take in challenging situations and how to respond in tricky circumstances.
ASSIGNMENT
Ask God to grant you knowledge in all the situations you may face in life.
PRAYER
Father, thank You for Your words to us today. Thank You for the knowledge found in Your word for every situation. To You be all the glory, in Jesus' name, Amen.
