Topic: Self-Care is Not Selfishness
Anchor Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:16 (NIV): "Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save yourself and your hearers."
Welcome, and may you be blessed in Jesus' name. Amen.
Earlier today, a woman made a striking statement on social media: "Save me first if anything goes wrong during labor." She did not elaborate further, and it wasn’t clear whether she was pregnant, as she did not appear to be. Regardless of her circumstances, her statement reflects an important truth. She may have encountered a story or witnessed something that informed her perspective.
Many people praised her for expressing this crucial point. In situations where both mother and baby cannot be saved simultaneously, standard medical practice prioritizes the mother's life. This reality is recognized worldwide.
Our anchor scripture today echoes this sentiment: before you can help others, you must first take care of yourself. You need to be alive, healthy, and strong to effectively influence those around you.
As Dr. Roberts Cannada Jr. says, “God saves us and uses us to save others.” This encapsulates the essence of self-care; it is not selfishness.
Furthermore, our anchor scripture emphasizes the importance of being steadfast in our faith, encouraging us to seek our own salvation before attempting to assist others. Our actions should align with our teachings.
Today's Lesson
While it is admirable to desire to save everyone, it is essential to prioritize your own well-being. Only by taking care of yourself can you genuinely support others.
In certain situations, it is crucial to focus on your own needs. Please do not feel guilty for doing so; it is important for your health and well-being.
To fulfill your destiny, you must be alive and well.
Reflection: Take time to meditate on today’s devotion and put its teachings into practice. May the Lord grant you greater understanding in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayers: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your words for us today. We receive the wisdom contained within them in Jesus' name. Amen.
