WHAT DOES THE BIBLE REPRESENT
*The Bible is the word of God and a source of Life, embodying words that give and sustain us.
*It is filled with insights and revelations, illuminating our paths.
*It is profoundly instructive and empowering.
Atheists may dwell in willful ignorance, yet this does not diminish the truth of God's word. Today, let us reflect on two biblical references that have significantly influenced medical sciences.
THE LAW OF QUARANTINE:("All the days he has sores, he shall be unclean, and he shall dwell alone: his dwelling shall be outside the camp." Leviticus 13:46.) Written over 3,500 years ago, this scripture outlines the need for quarantine in dealing with infectious diseases.
During the devastating Black Death of the 14th century, sick individuals were confined with families, leading to more deaths due to ignorance. Had society heeded biblical wisdom, countless lives could have been spared. This principle of quarantine effectively reduced the spread during the coronavirus epidemic.
LAWS OF HYGIENE:("And when he who has a discharge is cleansed of his discharge, then he should count for himself seven days for his cleansing, wash his clothes, and bathe his body in running waters." (Leviticus 15:13). 3,500 years ago, the Bible emphasized the necessity of washing hands under running water when addressing diseases.
In 1845, Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis noticed alarming death rates among women giving birth in hospitals due to a lack of hygiene. His insistence that doctors wash their hands resulted in a dramatic decrease in mortality from 30% to 2%.
LESSONS ‘Today’s devotion reminds us that the answers to life’s challenges can be found in the Bible if we diligently read and follow its instructions. As Ecclesiastes teaches us, there is nothing new under the sun.
PRAYERS: Lord, grant us the grace to immerse ourselves in Your life-giving words for sustenance and nourishment in Jesus' name. Amen.
