Topic: THE INFALLIBLE WORDS
Anchor Scripture: Joshua 10:12 KJV: "On the day the Lord gave the Amorites over to Israel, Joshua said to the Lord in the presence of Israel, 'Sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon.'"
Welcome to this beautiful day! Today, I want to share a powerful account from the Book of Joshua. Many years ago, according to the Bible, Joshua boldly commanded the sun to halt in its journey, seeking victory for his people. This remarkable event occurred approximately 3,224 years ago. Cambridge researchers assert that this biblical narrative may be the earliest account of an annular eclipse, which took place on October 30, 1207 BCE. This insight helps us connect the dots of history, revealing the reigns of ancient Pharaohs, as noted by David Sedley in the Christian Post.
In Joshua chapter 10:12-14, we witness Joshua's unwavering faith as he implores God to cause the sun and moon to stand still, allowing his army to continue their battle until the light of day. They needed this victory in Gibeon, the battlefield. Joshua powerfully declared, "Sun, stand still upon Gibeon; and you, moon, in the valley of Ajalon" (Joshua 10:12).
Robert Wilson, in 1918, recognized the challenges in pinpointing the exact date due to the complexities involved. Yet, recent researchers have developed a new eclipse code, accounting for the Earth's rotational variations over time. According to a statement from Cambridge University, their findings revealed that the only annular eclipse visible from Canaan between 1500 and 1050 BCE occurred on October 30, 1207 BCE.
Humphrey suggested that if the sun's light appeared to cease, it may very well refer to this extraordinary eclipse on October 30, 1207 BCE.
WHY DID I SHARE THESE TRUTHS TODAY?
I share this profound information to highlight the infallibility of God’s truth—His mighty acts throughout history. As stated in Isaiah 28, God's actions are wondrous, as are His works. It matters little whether atheists believe the Bible; the accuracy of its accounts resonates powerfully through time—an evidence that science itself cannot refute.
CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, researchers have reiterated in a paper published in the *Royal Astronomical Society Journal of Astronomy & Geophysics* that the Bible contains the sole recorded account of a solar eclipse before 1000 BCE.
