Topic: THE GOD WHO ANSWERS BY FIRE

Anchor Scripture: The Earth Is the LORD’s and its fullness. Psalm 24 KJV

THE CONTEST:

Our God, the all-consuming fire, is Jehovah, who answers by fire. He is the ultimate judge of the universe, never needing to be summoned or defended by anyone.

*He is our lifeline in Eternity and our helpline on Earth.

*Heaven is His throne, and the Earth is His footstool.

*Ownership of the earth and its fullness belongs to Him alone (Psalm 24).

*He sets the time and season, unbound by limitations.

*He revealed His ways to Moses and His acts to the children of Israel.

In 1 Kings 18:22-25, Prophet Elijah issued a challenge against the prophets of Baal. Baal, considered the god of fertility, was falsely believed to control rain and harvests during a time of drought that left the Israelites in confusion.

Elijah, following Jehovah’s instructions, invited King Ahab and the prophets of Baal to this contest. Elijah would call upon his God while the prophets of Baal called upon theirs. As the day of the contest arrived, 450 prophets of Baal gathered.

Elijah explained the challenge: he would sacrifice a bull on an altar without igniting it himself, praying for fire to consume it. The prophets of Baal would do the same. The people agreed, “Well said.”

THE FALSE GOD FAILED TO SHOW UP:

The prophets of Baal invoked their god from morning till night, but no response came. Elijah jestingly urged them to shout louder; perhaps their god was asleep or distracted.

JEHOVAH PROVED HIMSELF:

Elijah prepared the altar for Jehovah, raising his hands to heaven and praying for divine proof of His might. In an awe-inspiring moment, fire descended from heaven and consumed the altar. The people proclaimed Jehovah as the true God.

I don’t know what area of your life you long for God to show up. Perhaps you face mockery in your career, relationships, or personal life. Take heart; God will come through for you at His appointed time.

REFLECTION:

Let us reflect on today’s message, drawing strength from our ever-faithful God who meets us at our points of need. But are you born again? The blessings of sonship await you.

PRAYERS:

Say this prayer now: “Lord Jesus, I recognize that I am a sinner and that You died for my sin so I can have eternal life. Please wash me with Your precious blood and make me whole in Jesus' name, Amen.”

Congratulations!
