Topic: The Day of Good Deeds.
Anchor Scripture: “Let us not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time, we will reap a harvest of blessings, if we don't give up.” (Galatians 6:9-10 NLT)**
In our world today, we often find ourselves dedicating days to recognize, celebrate, and support a multitude of causes. The United Nations is a prime example, observing anniversaries of vital events alongside international days, weeks, years, and even decades.
These days are established through a collective agreement in the General Assembly, focusing on themes that align with the UN's mission for humanity. Among these meaningful observances is "International Women's Day," which I was fortunate to celebrate by winning the 2021 writing competition hosted by Exceler Books, a global press. There are also important days focused on topics like peace, security, human rights, and the fight against impunity etc
However, it's poignant to note that while these significant days exist, there is no globally recognized "International Day of Good Deeds" that highlights the countless acts of kindness happening every day. Many individuals, quietly making the world a better place through their selfless actions, often feel unnoticed or unrewarded.
This feeling can lead to a discouraging belief that their good deeds go unseen, echoing the sentiment found in Ecclesiastes 8:11: "Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil."
Yet, it's comforting to remember that Heaven does keep a record of our good works and has set aside a day to honor those who have chosen to do good, even when they feel overlooked
. The story of Mordecai in the Book of Esther exemplifies this beautifully. A humble gatekeeper devoted to his duties became a key figure in saving the king’s life. Although his actions initially went unrewarded, heaven had a plan. On a sleepless night, the king sought to recognize Mordecai’s bravery, leading to a remarkable turn of events where Mordecai was honored and elevated.
Starting today, let’s begin to sow seeds of kindness; it need not be complicated.
* Consider visiting local parks, where you might encounter elderly individuals who could appreciate a warm greeting or simply some company. Sharing a book with them could brighten their day.
* You may also think about spending time at an orphanage, bringing joy not only through gifts but by celebrating special moments with those who might need it most.
* If you're able, consider supporting skill acquisition for those in need—sometimes, a small act can yield immense joy and a lasting impact.
Reflections: Let’s take a moment to absorb today’s devotion and seek the strength to be true doers of good in Jesus’ name. Amen.
I pray for you today that heaven will open its book of remembrance on your behalf. All the good you’ve done will not go unnoticed, and you will be celebrated in Jesus’ name. Amen.
