Anchor Scripture: "Do not despise the small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hands" (Zechariah 4:10).
I recently heard a sermon about a woman who opened a restaurant to sell food. Months later, she found herself in debt. Desperate, she went to her pastor for prayers and explained how she could barely feed her children with the proceeds from her business. She feared that she might not be able to renew the rent when it expired.
The pastor asked her several questions:
"Why did you enter the food business?"
Her response was that it seemed easy since people must eat. Additionally, she received many compliments from loved ones whenever they enjoyed the delicacies she prepared.
The pastor then asked, "Did you pray before starting the business?"
She quickly answered, "Yes." But the pastor pressed further, "What did the Lord say to you?"
Her expression clouded over as she replied, "I just told God and started."
After leading her in prayer, the pastor asked again, "Apart from cooking, what else do you know how to do?"
She responded, "I know how to braid hair. I often braid my daughters' hair, and people commend me for it. I even trained in this skill in college."
The pastor advised her to transform her shop into a hair salon. Long story short, a few weeks later, she successfully transformed the space into a beautiful, modern salon. As she grew in the new business, she employed more hands with people working for her.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR HANDS?
Beloved, my counsel today is to reflect on what is in your hands. What is that thing you consider too small to pay attention to, even after the Lord has urged you to use it? In Exodus 4:2, God asked Moses, "What is in your hands?" Moses replied, "A stick." While Moses saw only a stick, God saw a "shepherd's rod." God is excellent at work; He is a wonderful counselor who uses whatever He gives to promote His people. Pursue your passion.
Again, I ask, what do you do effortlessly? Consider this: seek more skills and learning opportunities. God told Zerubbabel in our anchor Scripture today not to despise or reject small beginnings, as He is pleased to see such initiatives and will prosper the effort.
OUR COUNSEL TODAY:
Check that side hustle. Pray for more ideas to refine it. There are countless stories of individuals who left jobs that did not satisfy them and turned their side hustles into main jobs that became significant successes. When value is not placed on things, abuse is inevitable. Value what you have.
Don't live someone else's life; live your own. Stay in your lane. Your location determines your acquisition, and what you can see determines what you can acquire.
LESSON :
You cannot say you don't have anything. God did not create anyone to be a liability; it's just a matter of looking inward to recognize who we are or failing to value what we possess.
REFLECTION:
Let’s reflect deeply on ourselves and identify what we love doing effortlessly so we can create a career out of it.
PRAYERS:
Almighty God, please open our inner eyes to see the abilities You have given us and help us not to despise small beginnings, in Jesus' name, Amen.
