My Encounter with Jesus Changed Everything: The Story of an Ex-Hamas Member's Wife

Juman Al Qawasmi was born in the Middle East, in one of the most dangerous and ideologically radical environments. Her father was one of the founding members of Hamas, and she was later married to another Hamas member. From childhood, she was taught a single ideology: to hate Jews and Christians, believing this hatred was her holy duty.

Deep down, however, her heart was filled with fear and emptiness. She never knew peace and was always anxious. Juman recalls, “Islam does not give you peace. You’re always scared that something wrong will happen.”

She began to question her beliefs when Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007, leading to violence among Palestinians themselves. Chaos reigned everywhere.

Longing for the Living God

Amid her confusion and fear, Juman became desperate to know the living God. She sensed that something was wrong and cried out in desperation, “God, if You exist, I want to know You. I want to meet You because deep inside, I know there is a God.”

This was not a prayer of religion; it was a heartfelt cry from a daughter longing to meet her true Father.

*Prayers Answered

That night, she miraculously encountered Jesus in a dream. Jesus Christ appeared to her, looked at her with compassion, and spoke in Arabic, saying, “You are my daughter; don’t be afraid.”

These simple words penetrated her years of fear and hatred. For the first time, Juman felt a peace that was not the temporary kind promised by ideology, but the profound peace of God Himself. When she woke up, she found herself transformed; the emptiness, fear, and anxiety that had accompanied her disappeared, replaced by a peace that cannot be explained. She embraced a new identity: a daughter of the living God.

From Religion to Relationship

Her encounter was not about joining another religion; it was about discovering a personal relationship with Jesus, who loved her unconditionally. She said, “I knew He was real. I knew He loved me—not because of what I do, but because of who He is.”

Juman became a changed person. No longer bound by the demons of fear, anxiety, and anger, her heart, once filled with hatred, was now filled with love—even for those she had been taught to despise. She discovered that God is not distant; you can call on Him anytime, and He will answer you. He is a loving Father who calls His children by name, unconfined by time and space.

A New Identity in Christ Jesus

Today, Juman no longer identifies herself by her family’s history or her husband’s allegiance. She boldly declares her new name and identity: a daughter of the Living God.

In Christ, she found what years of strict religion could never provide:

- Peace that surpasses understanding

- The assurance that God is a loving Father

- Unspeakable joy

- Freedom from unnecessary laws

- A deep assurance of belonging to God

The Life Lessons

Her story stands as a living testimony that no one is too far gone for God’s love. Even in the darkest corners of hatred and war, His light can break through. As she put it, “He called me His daughter. That’s all I needed to hear.”

Juman’s story is a reminder that God still speaks, Jesus saves, and He does not want anyone to perish. God is the ever-present hope for the hopeless. Her life proves that even the hardest hearts can be transformed when they encounter the love of Christ. If He could reach a woman surrounded by terror, He can reach anyone—anywhere.

“I am no longer the daughter of Hamas. I am a daughter of the Living God.”
