Topic: MORE THAN AN IDEOLOGY.
Anchor Scripture: “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” - Habakkuk 2:14 (KJV).
Voltaire, a French atheist who lived from 1694 to 1778, despised Christianity so deeply that he predicted its extinction within a century. He believed that to eliminate Christianity, faith in the Bible must first be destroyed. Fast forward to today, Voltaire's estate stands as the headquarters of a Bible society—a true testament to the Lord’s power.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT:
During Voltaire's time, Christianity was experiencing a remarkable resurgence, marking the Era of the Great Revival and awakening. He underestimated its enduring nature, viewing it merely as an ideology destined to fade away. An ideology, simply defined, is a collection of beliefs or opinions held by an individual or group.
Before Christianity emerged, numerous ideologies existed, such as those of the Epicureans and Stoics, all of which eventually faded. In the Book of Acts, when Paul preached to the Jews, they dismissed him as a "babbler," perceiving his message as just another ideology. They brought him to the Areopagus, where he shared the truth of the Gospel.
CONTEMPORARY WORLD TODAY
Christianity has flourished for over two thousand years, and the Bible remains the most-read book worldwide. Our anchor scripture reflects the promise that the Gospel will reach every corner of the earth, revealing the magnificent glory of the Most High God. We each have the opportunity to partake in this glory by spreading the Good News wherever we go.
PARTAKERS OF HIS GLORY
Being partakers of His glory also calls us to illuminate our surroundings through our conduct, dress, and speech. Matthew 5:14 reminds us that we are the light of the world, a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden.
Are we ready to start showcasing His glory from today?
*Prayers: Lord Jesus, grant us the grace to reveal the magnificent gifts You have given us. In Jesus' name, amen.
