Anchor Scripture:

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11 KJV

Reflecting on the year 2021, I found myself absorbed in the news on a local station with the somber caption, "REMEMBERING THE BOMBING OF THE UNITED NATION BUILDING, TEN YEARS AFTER." It struck me hard—ten years had passed since that tragic day. I couldn't help but think of my neighbor, a kind soul who was caught in that devastating incident. We lived in the same block of flats, and her absence has left a lasting impact.

THE INCIDENT:

I vividly recall the last time I saw her. It was the night before the tragedy when a group of us, including her, gathered downstairs in our building to figure out why some apartments had lost power. We were all concerned, but little did I know that this would be our final moment together.

The following day, around 11 a.m., I received a frantic call from my husband. His voice was laced with worry as he tried to find out where I was. He broke the heartbreaking news that the United Nations Office in Abuja had been attacked. Initially,

I didn’t comprehend the gravity of what had happened, until I heard my neighbor’s cousin desperately trying to reach her. It turned into a moment of gut-wrenching panic when it became clear that she was missing and had left her phone behind—she was an employee at the UN when the tragedy unfolded.

As the dust settled, it became clear that she had been summoned to the office for an urgent matter. She wasn't supposed to be in the office that fateful day—a call that ultimately led her to her death

that fateful day. She had plans to get her hair done and travel home; small joys she had hoped for, now forever out of reach.

During her burial, we learned more about her life and dreams—stories filled with love and hope that were cut short far too soon.

THE TAKEAWAY:We all must take a moment to reflect on her story: Her cousin shared that she had applied to work at the UN five times, and each attempt met with rejection despite her qualifications. Finally, she secured the position in January, only to lose her life in July. It’s a haunting reminder of how fragile our time is and how important it is to stay close to God’s path.

THE LESSONS:

Let us be mindful to seek God’s guidance in every step we take. Life’s journey can be long and winding, and at times discouraging, but when we allow God to lead us, we find strength and purpose. His guidance can pull us through the toughest paths and help us reach our true destinations.

REFLECTION:

Let’s take a moment to check ourselves: Are we pursuing our goals outside of God’s Will? When was the last time we truly listened to His voice in our lives?

PRAYERS:

Heavenly Father, grant us the grace to trust in Your guidance and direction. Help us to always seek Your wisdom in our decisions, so we may walk in Your light, now and always. In Jesus' name, amen.
