Christian Treasures Daily Devotions Topic: There is always something to be thankful for
Anchor Scripture: Isaiah 12:4-5 (NASB) And on that day you will say, "Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; make them remember that His name is exalted." Praise the LORD in song, for He has done glorious things; let this be known throughout the earth.”
Thank you, Father, for another chance to share your words today. Amen.
A story shared by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God teaches an important lesson.
In a modest neighborhood, a man was cooking a meal outside his home. He stepped inside for a moment, and by the time he returned, his pot was gone.
Confused, he looked around and noticed a neighbor pointing to a house nearby. Although she didn’t speak, he understood she was indicating where to go.
Feeling upset, he went to the house she pointed to and was shocked to see a woman and her three children eating his unfinished food without the sauce it was supposed to have.
In their culture, “Amala” is eaten with soup, just like white rice is served with stew. The man felt compassion and returned home to get the sauce and extra food for the woman and her children so they could enjoy a proper meal.
When he got back home, he reflected on his life and realized that even though he had complained earlier, his situation was still better than that of some others.
The key message is that you are better off than the next person. If you think your life is tough, try looking around at others. Consider Job from the Bible, who faced unimaginable loss and suffering—something most of us today would find hard to endure.
Our Anchor Scripture says, “A living dog is better than a dead lion.” Though a lion is strong, if it is dead, it has no value. An alive dog is much more useful than a dead lion.
Today’s message is simple: you are better than the next person. Appreciate God, and your yourself, as setbacks often lead to better opportunities.
Reflection: Take a moment to think about your own life before feeling down about it. Are you really experiencing the worst of the worst? God has your back, and you are still better than the next person.
Blessed today by this devotion, please say these prayers after me.
Father, thank you for Your words to me today Thank you for the understanding You have given me. To You be all the glory, in Jesus' name amen.
