CHRISTIAN TREASURE DEVOTION

EAT THE WORDS; IT TASTES GOOD LIKE HONEY.

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE:** Matthew 4:4 (ESV) - "But he answered, 'It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”'"

INTRODUCTION: Many Christians mistakenly associate a believer's effective service to God and their seemingly healthy life solely with the grace of God. They often overlook the importance of a good dietary plan and exercise for physical well-being. But is it only the grace of God? Let's gain a better understanding through the two stories below.

In 2005, former U.S. President Bill Clinton openly admitted on Cable News Network (CNN) that his poor eating habits while in office largely contributed to his health challenges, including liver cancer. He shared how a change in diet gave him a second chance at life.

Recently, I watched a video of a well-known man of God, Pastor Paul Enenche from Dunamis International Christian Centre. In the video, his wife mentioned, “My husband doesn’t eat rice.” While some might have overlooked this statement, it caught my attention. I have often observed that Pastor Enenche, at the age of fifty-five, displays an energy level comparable to that of a thirty-year-old. He joyfully dances during worship, travels worldwide for crusades, and has composed numerous songs. If he needs to leap like a teenager, he does so with remarkable ease. But is this only due to the grace of God? While God grants immeasurable grace to His children, it’s a significant error to neglect the importance of caring for our physical bodies through proper nutrition and exercise.

WHO IS MY SPIRIT MAN OR INNER MAN?

Your spirit man is the Spirit of God dwelling within you. Your flesh or body is merely a house or tabernacle serving as a covering. However, just as physical nourishment is crucial for good health, the spiritual body also needs nurturing. Many people focus solely on their physical well-being while neglecting their inner man, which is equally vital. If your inner man is vibrant, your physical body will benefit as well. So how can we nourish our spirits to thrive spiritually? Let’s explore that next.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR SPIRIT MAN MORE VIBRANT:

Just as you require a healthy diet and exercise for physical health, your spirit also needs nourishment. What you consume spiritually can either build you up or harm you. For instance, Ephesians 1:18. speaks of the “Eyes of your heart “being enlightened. This means your understanding can deepen, allowing you to grasp hidden truths that others might overlook. Just as we have physical eyes, we also have spiritual eyes.

You also possess spiritual ears! Therefore, it's crucial to avoid negativity. If you continually absorb bad reports, it may hinder your ability to receive good news when it arrives. David expresses in Psalm 62:11, "God has spoken once; twice have I heard it." This is possible because he has maintained his spiritual hearing, free from distractions, allowing him to receive God’s messages clearly.

WHAT ARE THE ORGANS OF MY SPIRIT MAN AND THEIR USES?

All the organs found in your physical body also exist in your spiritual body. Here are a few and their functions:

- Your Head: Destiny

- Your Hair: Glory

- Your Legs: Dominion, Speed

- Your Eyes. Vision

- Your Fingers/Fingernails: Ability

- Your Nose: Discernment

- Your Mouth: Proclamation

WHAT CAN I FEED MY SPIRIT WITH?

- THE WORD OF GOD:;The more you read God’s Word, the more spiritually nourished and vibrant you become.

- PRACTICE MEDITATION: Take time to read and ponder His words, digesting them slowly with quiet time spent in His presence.

- FASTING AND PRAYERS: Abstaining from food to seek God’s guidance, just as Jesus demonstrated in Scripture, helps to strengthen your spirit man to tackle challenges.

- WORSHIP HIM IN THE EARLY HOURS: Begin your day with worship music, filling your home with uplifting sounds and Christian motivational quotes, even while driving. These practices will enrich your spiritual life.

BENEFITS OF GOOD NOURISHMENT FOR THE SOUL OR SPIRIT MAN:

1. JOY : You will remain vibrant in your spirit, radiating unspeakable joy.

2. SWEETNESS: As sweet as honey (Ezekiel 3:1-3).

3. SWEETER THAN HONEY: The Psalms refer to God’s words as sweeter than honey (Psalm 19:10), making them invaluable for study.

4. REFRESHING: Like good news from afar, akin to cold water in a parched land.

By nurturing both your physical and spiritual bodies, you can experience a balanced, fulfilling life in Christ.
