Anchor Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)
"He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end."
Be richly blessed as you read today's devotional in Jesus' name. Amen.
“I don’t know how I survived,” was the response of the sole survivor of a recent plane crash in India that involved over 200 people onboard.
I was reminded of a story I read about a young undergraduate who escaped death after missing a flight to India by just ten minutes. According to a newspaper report, the 21-year-old student had been scheduled to travel for an academic exchange program. He left for Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport but could not make the flight, all by the mercy of God. The flight, bound for Delhi from Abuja, with 177 passengers and crew onboard, crashed, leaving no survivors.
“I was frustrated with the Lagos traffic. I kept calling the airline to share my predicament. As I watched the minutes tick by, I felt I was going crazy inside the cab, knowing my flight was leaving without me,” he stressed. “By the time I reached the airport, the flight had departed—I was ten minutes late. I felt furious at the traffic that delayed me at the Oshodi/Apapa axis, but I was humbled when I heard that the same aircraft had crashed. Though I felt very sad for those aboard the ill-fated flight.”
What are we learning today?
OUR LESSONS TODAY:
- Not all delays are denials.
- Some delays could be divinely orchestrated to benefit you.
- Some delays may be intended to save you from unnecessary trouble in the future.
- God may prevent certain benefits from reaching you because you are not mature enough to handle them.
- He can also delay your acquisition of certain things due to potential envy and jealousy from bad friends or even family members because the season isn’t right.
- Some celebrations can be too soon, and not all testimonies should be shared too quickly.
REFLECTION:
Let’s take a moment to reflect on today’s message. Are there areas in our lives where we feel delayed and think the devil is at work? Why not take a moment to calm down and ask God what the purpose of the delay might be, so you can know how best to approach it in prayer.
PRAYERS:
Almighty Father, thank You for the plans You have for us each day. Thank you for your words in the book of Isaiah, that you knew us before you created us in our mother’s womb. Thank you because you will lead us to our expected end in Jesus’ name. Amen.
