Topic: Choose Your Hard Work Today

Anchor Scripture: Lamentations 3:27 (NIV) – “It is beneficial for a man to endure the yoke while he is young.”

May you be blessed as you read this, in Jesus' name. Amen. Today's verse prompts us to confront our challenges and embrace responsibility while we still have the vigor. Let’s explore a brief story that exemplifies this idea.

Not long ago, I ran into a friend in my neighborhood who is involved in real estate. During our conversation, she shared that she went on a scouting trip with a man I will call Mr. Kay. I found it surprising and was curious about how she had connected with him.

Mr. Kay had previously resided in our neighborhood, and he was wellknown by everyone. He frequently spoke of his past achievements and often reminded others of his former significance, especially when he felt overlooked. In casual discussions, he would boast of his adventurous experiences.

Despite being wellversed in global politics, he appeared to be trapped in the past, relying on past glories from years gone by. He didn’t put any effort into advancing his education or securing his children’s futures. Instead, his wife shouldered all responsibilities while they moved around the globe.

Unfortunately, she passed away six years ago, and Mr. Kay withdrew because his children wished for him to go back to their homeland. Now, at eightytwo, looking frail and weathered, he has returned, proclaiming grand ambitions to embark on a new journey in real estate and explore the world again.

Key Takeaways from This Devotional:

Mr. Kay neglected to engage in hard work when he had the chance, so he’s now facing difficulties instead of enjoying life with his children.

He did not prioritize family or invest in what truly matters.

He failed to regard spiritual matters, squandering his resources on fleeting pleasures.

He made unwise life choices and is now dealing with the repercussions.

Reflection

Choosing our challenges thoughtfully is crucial, especially while we are still vigorous and mentally sharp. Everyone experiences difficulties; yours may involve health concerns. However, healthier living can be pursued through good habits such as proper nutrition and exercise—and, of course, through prayer.

Develop a robust investment strategy and save for your family’s future by learning about wise financial management (consider concepts from Dave Ramsey).

Focus on maintaining good health and securing a reliable insurance plan for yourself.

Ensure that you have a place to call home, preventing the risk of homelessness and avoiding being a burden.

Value spiritual matters. Invest in God’s kingdom using your resources and time (Desiring God – Christian Living).

Above all, seek God’s wisdom when making decisions regarding hardships. May the Lord grant us discernment, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

By making wise choices about our hardships, we can look forward to enjoying our later years rather than enduring struggles.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for your guidance. As Psalm 90:12 states, “Teach us to number our days so we may acquire a heart of wisdom.” In Jesus’ name, Amen.
