“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.”
It is another blessed day, Amen! Reflecting on the past, I remember some innovations that faced ridicule but have become essential in our lives. I want to share two stories to inspire anyone facing doubt on their chosen path. Dare to dream the impossible!
The umbrella was initially imported from Persia (Iran) to France. Today, it is a staple in nearly every home. However, it faced initial resistance, particularly among men who carried it. It was seen as a sign of weakness until Jonas Hanway shocked Londoners in 1750 by openly using one. He endured abuse, stones thrown at him, and even a life-threatening encounter with a coach driver who accused him of harming their rainy-season business.
Despite the challenges, Hanway persisted. Today, the umbrella enjoys global acceptance.
Similarly, John Logie Baird, a Scottish inventor, introduced television. Upon arriving in the United Kingdom, he sought to showcase his invention in the “Daily Express.” He faced significant discouragement and was labeled a lunatic by the editor. That same year, radio pioneer Lee DeForest dismissed television as a “commercially and financially... impossibility,” believing it could never rival radio since people wouldn't sit in front of a “plywood box” every night.
What can we learn today? The power of believing in ourselves and our dreams, especially when they aim to uplift humanity and align with God’s will. We must trust our abilities before expecting divine support. Perhaps you have been mocked for being too old to pursue a degree, marry, or advance your career. Keep moving forward! Think of those who dared to defy the odds despite criticism and ridicule.
