Topic: Faith Without Works
Anchor Scripture: James 2:26 - “As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
Welcome to today’s devotional. As you read, may you be blessed in Jesus' name. Amen.
Today, I want to share the story of a beloved brother in Christ. He had not been seen at church for a few days, so the church sent some members to check on him. When they found him at home, he appeared thin and unkempt, and his usual vibrancy seemed to have vanished.
Concerned about his condition, they prayed for him to regain his health and urged him to visit a doctor, as he had not yet done so. Before they left, the prayer group leader, guided by the Spirit, asked him if he had eaten that day. He shook his head. When asked when he last had a proper meal, he revealed that he hadn’t eaten anything substantial in the last two days.
Realizing the issue, they immediately sent for food, and once he ate, his demeanor changed, and he regained his strength. This was when the prayer group recognized the real problem.
They provided him with more food and provisions that would last him for several weeks. Within days, he was back on his feet, and his vibrancy returned.
This story illustrates our anchor scripture about faith without works. In this case, the prayers represented faith, while the food was the action. If the group had only prayed but not provided food, how could he have improved?
We learn from this that just as faith without works is dead, so is a body without a spirit—it's empty.
**Our Lesson Today:** A lack of corresponding action can render faith ineffective. This means that faith should always be backed by action. We will continue with this theme tomorrow.
**Prayers:** Heavenly Father, thank you for your words today. Please grant us the wisdom and the will to back our faith with actions in Jesus' name. Amen.
