Topic 6: Ways to Stay Calm While Under Pressure (What Experts are Saying).

Life presents many challenges, including pressures and crises, which are a universal part of human experience. These challenges do not discriminate based on gender, race, tribal affiliation, or nationality. They can arise suddenly or develop gradually. Expecting to live a completely pressure-free life is unrealistic. Even God acknowledges that we will face challenges, but He also promises to guide us through them.

The encouraging news is that you can always overcome the pressures that surround you, whether in your work, relationships, or career.

1. Avoid Negotiating Under Pressure:

This advice is often given to leaders in political or military settings. Decisions made under pressure are typically not the best because the mind is not in an optimal state for thinking clearly. When we are under pressure, adrenaline surges, shifting our brain’s function away from analytical thinking toward automatic responses, which may not lead to the best decision, according to medical science.

2. Weigh All Available Options:

Always believe that there is a solution to every problem. Never entertain the notion that you're caught between "the devil and the deep blue sea." Many of the greatest innovations we enjoy today arose from significant challenges because individuals assessed their options. Shifting your mindset to explore various alternatives—considering the pros and cons of each—can ease pressure.

3. Write Things Down:

It’s important to physically write things down instead of typing on a mobile device or tablet. Writing engages cognitive processes that help clarify your thoughts and focus your mind. For example, in John 8:1-11, when a woman caught in adultery was brought to Jesus, He wrote on the ground to thoughtfully consider the situation before making a judgment. This method helped Him think clearly and make a sound decision, demonstrating that writing can facilitate clear evaluation and reduce bias.

4. Take a Walk in the Open Air:

If possible, go for a walk outside. It's best to avoid alcohol or cigarettes during stressful times. While some people claim these help, for optimal mental health, a walk in nature is advisable. It enhances blood circulation, supports brain function, and promotes clarity in decision-making. A study from Stanford University found that walking boosts creative thinking, allowing for a wider range of solutions.

5. Seek Advice from Professionals:

What do the experts say? If you are faced with a legal matter requiring urgent attention, consult with professionals. You are not the first to encounter such issues, so remember there is no need to feel overwhelmed. Seeking expert advice and surrounding yourself with trusted family members or friends can help reduce pressure.

6. Pray:

While we know that time is sometimes limited, for believers, prayer can be powerful. Speaking in tongues can be especially effective when facing complex challenges that need urgent solutions. By communicating spiritually, you shift the focus from your problem to a higher power. Every child of God should embrace the gifts of the Spirit through baptism in the Holy Ghost.
